Expert Functional Medicine Training Program

The Expert Functional Medicine Training Program is the clinical curriculum used to train providers in the Wellness Division of Dynamic Psychiatry.

This program teaches clinicians how to identify and address underlying physiologic factors that influence mental health, energy levels, hormonal balance, metabolic function, and overall human performance.

Traditional medical models often treat symptoms in isolation. Functional medicine instead focuses on understanding how different physiologic systems interact and identifying root causes that may be contributing to a patient’s symptoms.

Through this training program, our clinicians learn to evaluate these systems in a structured, evidence-informed way so that treatment can address the full picture of a patient’s health.

Why Dynamic Psychiatry Trains Its Own Clinicians

Dynamic Psychiatry was built around the belief that mental health cannot be fully understood by examining the brain in isolation.

Mood, cognition, motivation, and resilience are influenced by many interacting systems within the body — including metabolic health, hormonal balance, inflammation, nutrient status, and energy regulation.

Because of this, our clinicians receive specialized training in functional medicine principles that help them identify physiologic contributors to symptoms such as fatigue, depression, brain fog, anxiety, and metabolic dysfunction.

This training allows our providers to evaluate both the psychological and physiologic dimensions of health, helping patients receive more comprehensive and individualized care.

A Systems-Based Approach to Health

Many symptoms that affect mental health and well-being originate from physiologic dysfunction elsewhere in the body.

For example:

metabolic dysfunction can contribute to fatigue, brain fog, and weight gain
thyroid dysfunction can affect mood, cognition, and energy
hormone imbalances can influence motivation, sleep, and libido
• inflammation and nutrient deficiencies can impair cognitive performance and resilience

Rather than treating each symptom separately, our training program teaches clinicians to evaluate these systems together and identify the underlying patterns contributing to a patient’s health challenges.

What Our Providers Are Trained to Evaluate

The Expert Functional Medicine Training Program focuses on identifying dysfunction in several major physiologic systems that influence both mental and physical health.

Metabolic Health

Providers learn to evaluate:

• insulin resistance
weight regulation challenges
• metabolic inflammation
• energy metabolism

These factors can strongly influence fatigue, mood stability, and cognitive performance.

Hormone Regulation

Hormones influence nearly every physiologic system in the body.

Clinicians are trained to evaluate:

thyroid function
adrenal stress physiology
sex hormone balance
hormonal interactions affecting mood and metabolism

Understanding these systems can be essential when addressing fatigue, mood instability, sleep disturbances, and reduced vitality.

Nutrient and Cellular Energy Systems

Energy production at the cellular level plays a major role in overall health.

Training includes evaluation of:

vitamin and micronutrient deficiencies
mitochondrial energy function
• metabolic cofactors that support cellular energy production

When these systems are impaired, patients may experience symptoms such as brain fog, low energy, poor recovery, and decreased resilience to stress.

Inflammation and Recovery

Chronic inflammation and physiologic stress responses can significantly affect both physical and mental health.

Providers are trained to evaluate:

• chronic inflammatory states
• physiologic stress responses
recovery and repair mechanisms

Addressing these factors can play an important role in restoring long-term health and performance.

Clinical Skills Taught in the Program

Clinicians completing this training learn how to:

• evaluate symptoms using a systems-based approach

• interpret laboratory testing related to metabolic and hormonal health

• identify physiologic factors contributing to fatigue, mood changes, and metabolic dysfunction

• develop treatment plans that combine lifestyle, nutritional, hormonal, and medical therapies when appropriate

This training ensures that clinicians are equipped to look beyond surface symptoms and understand the physiologic processes influencing a patient’s health.

Treatment Approaches Included in Training

Providers trained in this program may incorporate a variety of evidence-informed interventions including:

• lifestyle and metabolic health optimization
• hormone evaluation and management
• nutritional and micronutrient support
• advanced metabolic therapies
• strategies to support energy, recovery, and longevity

• Peptide uses and Anti-Aging interventions

Providers trained through this program may integrate these principles into services offered through our wellness division, including hormone optimization, metabolic health programs, IV nutrient therapies, and other treatments designed to support physiologic health.

These approaches are integrated with traditional psychiatric care when appropriate, allowing Dynamic Psychiatry to address both mental health and physiologic contributors to well-being.

Why This Training Matters

Dynamic Psychiatry was designed around the belief that mental health and physical health are deeply interconnected.

Many patients struggling with depression, anxiety, fatigue, or reduced cognitive performance are experiencing influences from multiple systems simultaneously.

By training clinicians in functional medicine principles alongside psychiatric care and psychotherapy, our clinic is able to provide a more comprehensive model of treatment that considers:

• brain chemistry
• psychological coping systems
• physiologic health

This integrated approach helps our team better identify the factors contributing to fatigue, mood struggles, cognitive difficulties, and reduced vitality.

The Integrated Training Model at Dynamic Psychiatry

Dynamic Psychiatry trains clinicians using four complementary educational programs:

Master Medication Training Program
Advanced psychiatric decision-making and hypothesis-driven prescribing.

Master Therapy Training Program
Advanced psychotherapy techniques and structured behavioral change models.

Expert Functional Medicine Training Program
Physiologic and metabolic systems that influence mental and physical health.

TMS Technician Certification Program

Advanced TMS inerventions

Together, these programs allow our providers to evaluate patients from multiple perspectives — psychological, neurologic, and physiologic — helping identify the most important contributors to a patient’s symptoms.

Reach Your True Potential

If you are experiencing persistent fatigue, mood changes, metabolic challenges, or reduced vitality, a comprehensive wellness evaluation may help identify underlying contributors.
